The La Larr Ba Gauwa mountain bike park and campground at the Oak Forest have been severely impacted by the recent bushfire. It is with great regret that the Committee of Management (CoM) advises that the mountain bike trails and campground will be closed until further notice.
While the park has been significantly impacted, we are happy to advise that the campground, toilets, shelters, and the much loved Oak Forest have been unaffected. The CoM would like to acknowledge the amazing work of the FFMV and CFA crews in minimising the impact to the infrastructure within the park. Based on initial feedback from FFMV, we believe that around half of the 33 km of trails have been severely impacted, with the northern trails worst affected.
The CoM, that consists of a group of local volunteer cyclists and residents, is taking actions to reopen the park as soon as possible. The first key step is engaging a contractor to conduct an extensive hazardous tree assessment of the affected trails, and in and around other key infrastructure.
The CoM will work closely with the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA), Mount Alexander Shire, and the broader mountain bike and local community to make the park safe so it can be reopened. The park has been impacted by natural disasters in the past, and we are committed to making the park safe, repairing the trails, and reopening the beloved La Larr Ba Gauwa mountain bike park and Oak Forest campground as soon as possible.
